DISTORT CULT
12/01/10
Oi.
The new issue is printed. All Australian subscribers should get their shit by the end of the week. All the US subscriber copies have gone out to Andy. Expect them in a couple weeks. All other o/s subs are going out early next week, so that'll take some time too, hopefully two weeks. Thanks for your patience. If your address changes, please let me know. If you're a longtime subscriber and your email has changed, please get in touch so I can let you know what's going on. Mr D Dimaggio of Philadelphia, USA, I'm talking to you.
The next issue is going to be a lot thicker and will hopefully be out in a few weeks with the split with Counterfeit Garbage that basically sums up the best hits of the last decade. That zine is my favourite new US hardcore zine and I'm looking forward to reading their half. I have a list of my favourite LPs in the new MRR. Pick it up. The writing in the CG split will be different, so you won't be ripped off.
Upcoming is a 7" from Brisbane hardcore band Insurgents. This band is one of my favourite in Australia. They sound like Deep Wound and Koro and all great early US hardcore.
Also in future is Eddy Current Suppression Ring 7"s and a reissue of the Grabbies live 7" that ranks as one of the best "live" recordings ever made.
Ahhh, shit. Summer is fucking me up. I can't walk outside without half dying and the gym is calling me every day to hassle me for not showing up for the last month. My back is breaking with lethargy and I can't concentrate when reading so it's taking me twice as long to get through shit. I recommend the new Niche Homo issue, the Polish zine called Severed Ties I just got in the mail, any and all Negative Guest List. Today I'm going to try and read Infinite Jest and somehow get the time to read Being & Time (Heidegger) before the week is through. I will update the distro soon, I have a bunch of new zines and records for it, including the new Dry Rot and Slices 7"s and Niche Homo zines.
Subscription spots are available for US$40 for 10 issues. I'm going to try and make it to 300 people so I can press 7"s specifically for subscribers only and don't have to fuck around with limited covers (that shit is very time consuming). I'm 2/3 way there. Thanks for your support. Distort fanzine endorses the following products: Lindt dark chololate, the Ivy Green LP, Judd Apatow movies, the Rival Mob LP, Battlestar Gallactica, the Criminal comic, Richard Stark and Nietzsche writings. When drinking coffee, stay black.

Three hitter. The new issues are printed as of tomorrow, the 7" is pressed, so the subs will start going out this week. Thanks for your patience.
Issue #23 features interviews with Waste Management, Wasted Time and Watery Love, plus a Straightjacket Nation SE Asia tour diary.
Issue #24 is a subscriber only issue - a scrapbook issue featuring rare fliers, photos and interview quotes from fanzines, books and records on my shelves: great shit from Larissa Strickland to Vinnie Stigma to Sex/Vid to Straight Ahead. I think this issue looks great. This issue was a real bl'ast to put together and looking through the stacks of fanzines, books and records that went into this, there's so much more great stuff I'm looking forward to reprinting in future issues. No point waiting for an "official" retrospective of bands that you like. If you have any cool interviews or fliers worth reprinting, get to it. Or mail that shit to me. Don't expect me to post it back to you. Over the last few years there's been a handful of high quality books published that have really stepped into the shoes of what fanzines should be doing. If there was a vital fanzine culture which had high quality standards and a good work ethic, books like Fucked Up & Photocopied would be almost redundant. As it is though, with fanzines dead almost everywhere in the world but Australia, this issue is a respectful nod to the authors of that book and the following mag/fanzines that have been very influential on Distort and I'd recommend highly you chasing them down: FORCED EXPOSURE, SEARCH & DESTROY, HARDWARE, INSIDE FRONT, CREEM, BOMP, NO MAG, MRR, TVOR, TOWN OF HARDCORE, BREAKOUT. And some modern rags worth mopping up your blow / soaking up your period : RATCHARGE, MEAN PUNK, DIRTY ALLEYS DIRTY MINDS, DUMB HARDCORE, SOAPBOX, NOG GUILGY, DOWN AND OUT, STAINED SHEETS, NEGATIVE GUEST LIST, WARNING, MRR, Z GUN, PEDERAST PROPHET, NO THANKS FUCK EVERYTHING. It was not easy, it was not fun, now go and do it anyway.
Issue #25 is the Extortion / Jed Whitey split 7".
Ten issue subscriptions are available. This is 8 regular fanzines and 2 7" released in lieu of a regular zine. They are US$40 anywhere in the world, or AUD$40 in Australia. Overseas, please paypal to distorttheworld aaaaaat gmail. In Australia, please email me for payment details. There are about 10 subscriber cover copies of the Extortion / Jed Whitey split (/150) available, so if you want to get in on that, get in touch ASAP.
There is a blog here for all you perverts covering books and non-hardcore related records, etc.
